松春庵|MATSUHARU AN|KYOMACHIYA|Accommodation
Matsuharu An
This guesthouse was originally the private residence of a Kyoto-based architect.
Although the building is nearly 100 years old,
it has been carefully maintained and subtly enhanced by the architect himself,
preserving its beauty and charm in remarkable condition.
To the south of the house is a coin-operated parking lot, allowing for plenty of natural sunlight,
while the north side overlooks a peaceful elementary school playground, providing fresh air and an open, uplifting atmosphere.
One particularly striking feature is a majestic pine tree,
said to have been planted when the house was first built.
This tree, now over a century old,
stands gracefully beside the house and symbolizes resilience and longevity.
In Japan, evergreen pine trees have long been cherished as symbols of eternal youth and long life.
Inspired by this, we named the house Shoshun-an (literally, "Pine Spring Retreat") in hopes that,
like the enduring pine, it will continue to be loved and cherished by travelers for many years to come.
